Happiness at every turn Strolls through Peiting and the surrounding area are full of hidden adventures and surprises. Summer meadows, panoramic alpine views, farming areas, inns, churches and chapels. A magnificent landscape makes walking a real pleasure adults and children alike.
A number of long-distance hiking trails also run through Pfaffenwinkel. The long-distance walking trail of the Romantic Road and the King Ludwig Way run directly through Peiting. Both trails run between Peiting and Rottenbuch through the beautiful Ammerschlucht gorge, also known as the Grand Canyon of Upper Bavaria. Here the trail will take you via 460 steps, across walkways and over small bridges through a dense mixed forest. It is a truly unique experience – although you do need to take care and, if possible, shouldn’t do it alone. The path through the gorge isn’t overly long but you shouldn’t schedule more than 2 km/h for it. For those who are unable to continue for whatever reason, the “emergency exits,” will guide you to the nearest, but highly situated road. After Ammerschlucht gorge, the trail takes you through the Schweinsberg meadows to the former monastery village of Rottenbuch. From here you can travel back to Peiting by bus. More detailed information on the long-distance hiking trails, walking tours and packages is available from Pfaffenwinkel Tourist Association: Information on King Ludwig Way with individual stages of the day
